Public transportation

Take the S-Bahn S21 to the stop Billwerder-Moorfleet. From there, follow the signs to the prison (approx. 1,500 meters walking distance).

Visiting regulations for detainees in pretrial detention

Frequency and duration of visits

Detainees in pretrial detention can one hour every two calendar weeks Visitors are welcome. Appointments are scheduled in even or odd calendar weeks and will be communicated when the appointment is made.

Number of visitors

A maximum of three people are allowed per visit, of which no more than two may be adults.

Important information for children and young people:

  • Children under 14 years of age may only enter the institution accompanied by an adult.
  • Young people between the ages of 14 and 18 require prior authorization from the prison administration for unaccompanied visits.

Visits are only possible by prior appointment. Appointments can be made by phone or email.

Special permit requirement

In cases of pre-trial detention, prior permission to visit may be required from the competent court, the public prosecutor's office or the police.

Entry times and access regulations

Visitor admission begins 30 minutes before the agreed start time of the visit and ends 10 minutes before this date.

Important: Visitors arriving late after this time will not be admitted. In this case, a new appointment can be arranged during the visitor service hotline's operating hours.

ID requirement

Every visitor must present a valid identity card or comparable photo ID at the outer gate.

Refusal of entry

If there is suspicion that visitors have consumed drugs or alcohol before their visit, the visit may be refused.

Required items and permitted items

Required documents

  • Valid identification document (mandatory)
  • If necessary, a visitation permit from the court or the public prosecutor's office.

Permitted coins for vending machines

The following coins may be brought for use at the snack and beverage vending machines:

  • One adult: maximum 15 euros
  • Two adults: maximum 20 euros

Prohibited items and rules of conduct

Bag and personal checks will be carried out at the entrance. Please ensure that there are no items in your trouser pockets.

The following is prohibited:

  • Bringing in objects, money (except permitted coins) or alcohol/drugs
  • Handing over items to prisoners during visits
  • Taking items (e.g. letters) out of the institution

Code of conduct

  • The designated seating arrangement must be followed.
  • Children must stay at the table
  • All instructions from staff members must be followed immediately.
  • Sexual acts are not permitted.

Important NOTE: Violations of these rules may result in the visit being terminated or a ban from the institution. Visits are constantly monitored by cameras and staff. If drugs are brought in, criminal charges will be filed.

Laundry packages

Packages can be delivered in two ways:

  • By mail or parcel delivery
  • Personal drop-off on Wednesdays between 8:00 and 14:30 directly at the gate

Package requirements

  • A sturdy outer casing (cardboard) is required.
  • Maximum packing dimensions: 65 cm (W) × 36 cm (L) × 38 cm (H)
  • The sender (name, first name or company and full address) must be clearly identifiable.

Money transfer for prisoners

Inmates at Billwerder Prison can make purchases with their own money. Designated money transfers are possible.
